Sub Pop has gone and bought themselves a Vetiver. They’ve signed Andy Cabic and his band for a new album to be released in early 2009.
In a statement, Sub Pop said “In the parlance of our times, we simply issued some commercial paper to raise the requisite capital and now Vetiver is ours.” File this one under mergers and acquisitions.
After releasing a covers album and a full length or originals on Gnomosong earlier this year, Vetiver will release an album titled Tight Knit on February 3rd on Sub Pop.
As part of his plan to suspend his campaign activities, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) decided to cancel his appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. McCain’s campaign reportedly told Letterman that the senator was “racing back to Washington.” That, however, didn’t happen. In his last night, Letterman showed footage of McCain sitting down with CBS’s Katie Couric for an interview at the same time he was supposed to be on his show.
In a reply to John McCains suspension of his campaign, Barack Obama says:
“It’s my belief that this is exactly the time the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible with dealing with this mess … What I think is important is that we don’t suddenly infuse Capitol Hill with presidential politics … Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time. It’s not necessary for us to think that we can do only one thing, and suspend everything else.” -Barack Obama
The United States is in the middle of a serious financial crisis that could push the economy into a long-term recession if the government does not act, the president has said.
In a televised address on Wednesday aimed at persuading the public to support a $700bn financial bail-out being negotiated with congress, George Bush reiterated that urgent action was needed to bolster the markets.
U.S. presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain issued a joint statement Wednesday, calling the Bush administration’s financial bailout plan “flawed” and calling for bipartisan cooperation.
