Song of the Day: What Did You Learn In School Today?

A great little anti-establishment song written by Tom Paxton and performed by the one and only Pete Seeger. I have provided the lyrics so you can sing along.

Lyrics:

What Did You Learn in School Today
(Tom Paxton)

What did you learn in school today,
dear little boy of mine?
I learned that Washington never told a lie
I learned that soldiers seldom die
I learned that everybody's free
That's what the teacher said to me
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today,
dear little boy of mine?
I learned that policemen are my friends
I learned that justice never ends
I learned that murderers die for their crimes
Even if we make a mistake sometimes
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today,
dear little boy of mine?
I learned that war is not so bad
I learned about the great ones we have had
We fought in Germany and in France
And someday I might get my chance
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

What did you learn in school today,
dear little boy of mine?
I learned that our government must be strong
It's always right and never wrong
Our leaders are the finest men
So we elect them again and again
And that's what I learned in school today
That's what I learned in school

Vetiver Signs With Sub Pop

Sub Pop has gone and bought themselves a Vetiver. They’ve signed Andy Cabic and his band for a new album to be released in early 2009.

In a statement, Sub Pop said “In the parlance of our times, we simply issued some commercial paper to raise the requisite capital and now Vetiver is ours.” File this one under mergers and acquisitions.

After releasing a covers album and a full length or originals on Gnomosong earlier this year, Vetiver will release an album titled Tight Knit on February 3rd on Sub Pop.

The Felice Brothers. . . My Newest Love

Felice Brothers

If your like me, your always on the hunt for music that peaks your interests, something new you haven’t heard before yet still somehow sounds familiar, something that restarts your life, something that inspires you.

The Felice Brothers have done that for me. Most especially their song ‘Frankie’s Gun.’ It’s phenomenal on the record and even better live.

Think Old Crow Medicine Show and the Avett Brothers mixed with basement tape era Bob Dylan and the Band and your getting close. Loose, raw, free, rugged, beautiful. Check them out.

New KOL Album Released Today

Kings of leon Only by the night

The Kings of Leon’s new album, Only By the Night, makes its official release today.

KOL, who’s success has been huge in Europe (currently at the top of the singles charts) has had a hard time breaking through in the US.

In Europe, particularly the U.K., the Kings of Leon are as big an American rock band as there is. “Our first European tour was sold out,” frontman Caleb Followill said, “and every tour since has been sold out. Over there, some kids have been trying to get into our concerts for five years.”
