Wowzers. Despite the unappealing name, Deer Tick kicks some serious ass.

I recently stumbled upon Beck’s website. What a find!
Probably the coolest thing about Beck’s website is his Record Club. The idea of the Record Club is for Beck and Co. to record a classic album in it’s entirety, all in one day!
Up until now they have only completed the Velvet Underground’s ‘Velvet Underground and Nico’ You can find the videos for each song off the first album here.

Previously, Banhart was signed to the small indie label XL, which put out 2007’s critically-acclaimed Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon. The title of the new LP, his seventh album since 2002, is actually styled thusly:
What
Will We
Be
Now that the intensely individualistic Banhart has sold out to the “man,” so to speak, to get his freak on in the most public way possible, it will be interesting to see what happens next.
Banhart recorded the album with A Band of Bees’ Paul Butler, and his backing band consists of plenty of folks Banhart has worked with before: Megapuss buddy Greg Rogove, Little Joy’s Rodrigo Amarante, Luckey Remington, and Noah Georgeson. Andy Cabic also contributed to the album.

I’m proud to say I share my birthday with the Greatest American Folk Singer Ever, Woody Guthrie. I was born July 14th, 1982 – exactly 70 years after Woody and to commemorate Woody’s (and my) birthday here is one of the two surviving film clips of Woody Guthrie performing. Long live Woody Guthrie!

A lot to live up to – he is the son of Steve Earle and named after the late great Townes Van Zandt – Justin Townes Earle is a breath of fresh air. His music is both old-timey country and relevant to our times. Check out the insightful interview and performance below.

Ryan Bingham is now on his second album and boy what a treat. His first album, Mescalito, wasn’t a bad effort, it just seemed to drag on. Each song had a minute intro or build up.
On his second album, Bingham, has tidied things up. The songs are more concise and a fair bit more interesting. I the album recently for only $7.99 – definitely worth the price.

In my world there are two moons – Pink Moon and Blue Moon. Recently I combined the two.
Blue Moon is a wheat ale beer with an orange peel flavor I have recently fallen in love with and Pink Moon is the third album by deceased British folk singer, Nick Drake, that I have been in love with for years. It may be one of the most beautifully depressing albums of all time by one of the most beautifully depressed songwriters of all time. (He overdosed on anti-depressants)
Roughly 30 minutes long, Pink Moon is short and sweet. The use of only a guitar and his voice on ten of the eleven tracks gives the album a very stark and bare atmosphere, a perfect accompaniment to the robust and rich flavor of Blue Moon.
Consume a pint (or two) of Blue Moon while listening to Pink Moon and you’ll have your self a very, very pleasant time.

Seems like the best place to find great music these days is at the Pangea House. On my last visit to the Pangea I was lucky enough to see my friends the Simple Infant Men. They are Micah Scott on vocals and guitar, Cal Davies on Banjo, and ‘bluegrass’ Joe Andrus on the stand up bass.
Check them out.
